If it is important that I classify my artwork, I would describe it as expressionistic drawing. In my artwork, I have always attempted to achieve a three-dimensional quality that is absent of any ambiguities in its form. I constantly strive for the highest standards of virtuosity in my draftsmanship to convey artistic imagery. My concern is with capturing emotion and expression, rather than trying to obtain realistic representation, although some viewers of my work find it very representational.

One of my main objectives is to bring life, character, and personality to an inanimate surface that still maintains its own presence among animate objects. I also seek to stimulate and provoke the interest and curiosity of my audience. It is my desire to invite the audience’s participation and encourage them to bring their own experiences to my work. This causes them to search for meaning and content and come to their own conclusions. It is this process that separates a true work of art from a picture.

During most of my experience as an artist and Master Printer, I have served students, adults, collectors, clients, and artists in many capacities including collaborator, lecturer, juror, panelist, teacher, and State Arts Commissioner. This contact with the public has given me the rare opportunity to converse with people on many levels of our society. Interaction with people of all ages and all walks of life has always given me great pleasure.
